Frequently Asked Questions
🖨️ Printing & Scale
All patterns are designed to print on A4 or US Letter-sized paper. The file will include both sizes or specify which to use — check the first page of your PDF for guidance.
Always print at 100% scale ("Actual Size") — never "Fit to Page" or "Scale to Fit". Each pattern includes a scale reference bar or marked dimension; measure it with a ruler after printing to confirm accuracy before cutting your leather.
If a pattern spans more than one page, each sheet will have alignment marks (crosshairs or trim lines) in the corners. Trim the white margin from one sheet along the marked edge, then butt it up against the adjacent sheet, matching the registration marks precisely. Tape the pages together before transferring to leather.
📐 Finished Dimensions
Finished dimensions are stated in the PDF instructions for each pattern.
Always verify against the scale square located on each pattern after printing to ensure accuracy.
🐄 Leather Selection & Thickness
What type of leather should I use?Our patterns are designed for vegetable-tanned leather which holds its shape well and burnishes cleanly. Badalassi Carlo Pueblo (as used in our Pattern Kit) is an excellent choice.
Thickness guidance is included in each pattern's instruction sheet. As a general guide for these small accessories, 1.0–1.5 mm (2–3 oz) works well for card holders and sleeves, while sheath projects may call for slightly heavier stock. Refer to your specific PDF for the recommended weight.
Each PDF includes a materials list with the required leather panel size for that project. Because these are small accessories, most patterns require only a small offcut or panel rather than a full hide.
🧵 Thread & Hardware
We recommend polyester thread— it's strong, durable, and easy to work with. Our Memory Mate Pattern Kit includes matching polyester thread. For digital-only patterns, the instruction PDF will specify thread weight; a 0.45-0.5mm waxed polyester thread is suitable for most projects.
Hardware requirements are listed in each pattern's PDF.
For edge finishing, 400 grit for initial shaping, 800 grit for finer smoothing, and 1200 grit for polishing. This applies to vegetable-tanned leather projects.
📍 Stitch Holes
Yes — stitch lines and/or hole positions are marked on the pattern pieces. Use a stitching groover and pricking irons or an awl to transfer and punch holes consistently. Guidance on spacing and technique is included in the step-by-step instructions within the PDF.

🔆 Laser Cutter Compatibility
Our patterns are provided as print-and-cut PDFs optimised for hand cutting. They are not supplied as vector files (SVG, DXF, or AI) for direct laser cutting. If you wish to use a laser cutter, you would need to redraw the pattern pieces yourself in vector software from the printed template — we are unable to provide technical support for this process.
We don't currently offer vector files as a standard product. Feel free to contact us if this is something you'd find valuable — your feedback helps shape future offerings.
